Ever wanted to knit Fair Isle? Knitting a hat is the perfect way to introduce a new technique. This workshop will teach you to the basics of Fair Isle (stranded) knitting. Once you learn the technique, there are an infinite number of patterns available. You can even make your own. Is easier than you think!
Cost: $20 plus materials
In this class you will:
- Read charts in the round
- Properly tension and knit with 2 colors
- Knit a warm hat using the Fair Isle technique
Stranded knitting:
- Uses 2 colors to make a pattern
- Carries yarn behind your knitting
- Makes a thicker fabric, perfect for a warm hat
- Uses charts as pattern guides
Materials:
- Circular 16” bamboo or wood knitting needles size 7 (or size to get gauge)
- Set of double pointed needles US 7 (or size to get gauge)
- LB Collection Merino Yak Alpaca yarn 1 skein main color, 1 skein pattern color
- Stitch markers
Ability to cast on, knit and purl in the round. Knowledge of increase stitch methods.
Advance prep required:
- Gauge swatch for 17 stitches = 4”
- Ribbing in the round to 1.5” (class will immediately start with Fair Isle knitting
Your instructor, MaryBeth Hawn, recently completed a Fair Isle class with Lucy Neatby and trip to Iceland under the tutelage of the internationally known Fair Isle guru, Ragga Eirksdottir.
